When Should I Call My Doctor?
Blood glucose levels can fluctuate with exercise.
Typically, exercise causes blood glucose levels to drop,
but in some instances, blood glucose levels can
increase with exercise. Some people may have no
difficulty starting a regular exercise program as
prescribed by a physician; whereas, others may have
pain, balance problems, or heart problems that make
exercise too painful or too difficult. If you have
diabetes, you should contact your doctor to help
decide whether you should exercise on your own or
consult a physical therapist.
What Can I Expect From Physical Therapy?
A physical therapist will perform a full evaluation to
determine what problems are affecting your ability to
exercise and put together a specific plan of care to
address those problems. The goal is to help improve
function and progress you to an independent and safe
exercise program while keeping blood glucose levels
in a safe range.
