Readers who use the analytical reading strategy of analyzing text
structure do so in order to look at how ideas are organized and
how that organization affects the meaning of a text. In order to
gain a deeper understanding of the ideas in a text, students should
learn to analyze text structure.
Analyzing Text Structure is also a good strategy for teaching
students how to write well-organized arguments. When students
study the decisions made by authors, they can begin to mimic
those decisions in their own writing.

Some common types of text structure are as follows:
• Description
This type of text structure features a detailed description of
something to give the reader a mental picture.
• Sequence
This text structure gives readers a chronological of events or a list
of steps in a procedure.
