Welcome
Dear colleagues,
Welcome to the 2015 ASME/Bath Symposium on Fluid Power and Motion Control held at the Radisson
Blu Aqua Hotel, a stunning architectural marvel in Chicago. We hope you will find the technical program
engaging and the social events productive for networking with colleagues.
The conference has been jointly organized by the University of Bath and the American Society of Mechani-
cal Engineers (ASME). Since 2009, it has been held every year alternating between Bath and locations in
the US. This year we are thrilled to co-locate the conference with the Fluid Power Innovation and Research
Conference (FPIRC). FPIRC is an evolution of the annual meeting of the NSF Center for Compact and
Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP). Taken together, ASME/Bath and FPIRC provide a unique week-long forum for
the international fluid power community from academia and industry to discuss recent developments and
future challenges in fluid power technology.
We received an unprecedented 114 submissions, with the final program including 68 papers. Following the
long tradition of the Bath Symposium offering a single-track conference, the 68 papers will be presented in
12 sessions evenly distributed with two morning and two afternoon sessions over the three days of the
conference. The program includes social events each day, starting with an opening reception on Sunday,
and ending with a joint reception with FPIRC on Wednesday, which will also include a student poster
presentation. On Monday evening, Parker-Hannifin will host a dinner, and on Tuesday we will have the
Koski Lecture, presented by Monika Ivantysynova, the 2015 Koski Medal awardee, followed by the Koski
Banquet in the evening.
Many individuals and organizations have generously given their time and resources to make the 2015
ASME/Bath Symposium a success. Our volunteers on the Organizing Committee, Program Committee,
Editorial Board, and numerous others, have given their support behind the scenes.
The fluid power community has always benefitted from a close collaboration between industry and
academia. Without the contributions of our sponsors and exhibitors, this conference would not have
happened, and we are indebted to each one of them. At the end of this program please find a page
highlighting our generous sponsors.
We are confident that you will find this conference an exciting and technically rewarding event. Again,
welcome, and thank you for your participation. Please enjoy the conference and this culturally rich city.
Sincerely,
Eric J. Barth Kim Stelson
