University Placement
throughout the fall semester
leading uP to university aPPliCation
The Director of University Guidance leads group seminars for the entire student body regarding university choice, selection, scholarship applications, process and deadlines, while offering one-on-one counselling to students. Online resources and related guidance for researching university programs are readily available.
sePtemBer
Each student is scheduled for a one-on-one follow up discussion with the Director of University Guidance to continue discussing university plans. Any required fine-tuning to course selection also takes place as required.
early oCtoBer
Students who wish to explore international opportunities for undergraduate or even their graduate degrees are welcome to participate in one of the annual Council of International Schools (www.cois.org) university fairs hosted in Zurich and Geneva. Vying for the attention of students from schools in Switzerland, over 90 post-secondary institutions from Europe and Asia exhibit. NJC students have the chance to meet representatives and learn about programs never considered before.
mid-oCtoBer
Despite the physical distance, parents need not feel separated from the university placement process. As much as this is a year of growth, maturity and new independence for students, parents are welcome to visit NJC at

Highlights
early sPring Prior to deParture
In the early spring prior to departure, students receive a University Placement Package encouraging them to conduct preliminary research to begin narrowing their university and program choices. Since no amount of research can replace how a campus feels, it is recommended that students visit preferred universities pre-departure for NJC to get a personal sense of the university communities they are considering.
may Prior to deParture
In May, a private consultation regarding course selection and preliminary program interests takes place between the family and our Director of University Guidance. These appointments are scheduled to coincide with the annual Enrolled Student Reception in Toronto, and they are conducted in person in the Canadian Office or via telephone/Skype.
orientation triP week
During the first week of the academic year—Orientation Trip Week— general discussions about the study of AP and early admission processes are reviewed.
WHY OUR GRADS?
Our graduates are consistently sought after by the top universities and most competitive programs, and we know why. Leonard Wilde’s vision of offering a rigorous and immersive education is alive and well. Today’s stewards of Wilde’s unique, pre-university year concept ensure that we are turning out young men and women who stand out in a sea of university applications. Our grads have the academic and adventurous profiles that universities seek because they are curious, confident, independent, innovative and driven to make a difference in the world.
• The entering class academic average is well over 80% each year; with nearly a quarter of the class entering with distinction—a 90% average or above
• At graduation, a 5-year average of 88% were Ontario Scholars, which is the achievement of an academic standing of 80%
or above
• Over 50% of each class over the past 5 years has opted to attend universities considered to be the best in Canada—Queen’s, McGill, Western, University of Toronto, UBC—or a university in the US or UK
• In 2016, NJC students were 20% higher than the global average for the number of AP exams achieving grades of either 3,4, or 5
• Typically, 10% of each class opts to study at an Institution outside of Canada in the US, UK or beyond
• Arguably the most competitive undergraduate program in Canada is Commerce at Queen’s University, and 10 of our graduates from the Class of 2016 were accepted from a pool of over 6,832 applications vying for only 475 first year places. This is an outstanding feat for any school, yet all the more so given our small class size of 70 students and the fact that 26% of NJC’s class typically pursues business studies.

Going into university, I feel as if I have an upper hand. I’m independent, mature, and confident in myself. I look forward to keeping on growing at university, in future travels and all endeavors.
