Message from the Head of School
The 2016-17 year has been a memorable of Normandy, Mont St. Michel and
“It is with tremendous gratitude for his many years of leadership at NJC that we share Head
of School, Bill Boyer’s plan
to retire at the conclusion
of the 2017-18 academic year. Anyone who knows Bill will know how difficult it was for him
to make this decision; his passion for NJC has been consistent since he first joined our community as Head of School in 1989.” Sally Morris & Michel Feuz

one for NJC and for me personally. We
began the school year with an unforgettable
celebration of the first 60 years of this
remarkable school where 1,000 alumni,
parents, former and current staff and Neuchâtel within the comfort of their
the Bayeux tapestry. They have played a number of sports, visited several museums and cultural events, travelled independently with classmates, lived like local citizens of
friends of NJC fêted our school’s history at the Allstream Center in Toronto. We then welcomed the re-accreditation visiting teams of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) to Neuchâtel and our Toronto office in February to review our standards for membership in this association. The Canadian Advisory Committee continues to work on the development of our new Strategic Plan. Both the Strategic Plan and the CAIS report
should be ready for publication this fall.
The final few weeks of this school year were celebrated with all of its exciting events and of course the graduation ceremony on June 16. Our students have enjoyed another extraordinary year – visiting such sites as Vimy Ridge (just prior to the 100th anniversary of that famous battle), Auschwitz, Dachau, Kenya, Zermatt, Berlin, Brussels, Greece, Italy, Portugal, London, Barcelona, as well as the beaches
host families, received responses from the universities to which they have applied, and finally, have crossed the stage at the Temple du Bas in downtown Neuchâtel to graduate from high school.
In this, my penultimate year as Head of School of Neuchâtel Junior College, I remain humbled to lead this extraordinary school and excited, not only for the graduating Class of 2017, but also for the future of our unique institution. These students this year, and those who graduated before them have truly embodied the transition from curious minds to global citizens.
