Junior College.
Dear NJC Community:
Each December, we launch our Annual Campaign appeal within our small but proud NJC Community. Since the campaign began in 1995, the generosity of individuals, families and foundations has funded important capital projects, bursaries, and the slow but sure growth of our endowment at Neuchâtel Junior College. As is the case in all independent schools like ours, tuition fees do not cover these necessities.
It is part of my official role to give a voice to the school’s needs within a campaign such as this, but for me, this appeal is about much more than my duty as Head of School. I have served NJC twice in my career because I am convinced that there is no other academic institution on the planet that is as transformative, inspiring, or life-altering for young men and women as Neuchâtel Junior College. Since our school’s enrolment is so intentionally small, and since our alumni base is less than 5,000 graduates, in comparison to our peer institutions, our challenge to achieve long-term sustainability is even greater.
As someone who loves the school, one concern is always in the back of my mind. Despite having 74 enrolled students in the Class of 2014, there have been years when the school’s enrolment was not as healthy. For the school to safely weather economic downturns and to remain competitive in good times, we will always need facilities and resources to meet and exceed the standard, bursaries to bridge the gap, merit scholarships to continue attracting the best, and an ever-growing endowment. It is for these reasons that I am appealing to you to please reflect on how NJC benefited you or your child and consider participating in this year’s campaign at the gift level that you are able to afford. Every gift is vital to the continuous advancement and stability of the school, and every gift is profoundly appreciated.
Within this issue, you will find a brochure with descriptions of the areas where you may direct your gift. You will also find a few reflections that were written by the Class of 2013 just weeks before they graduated last June. I trust you will enjoy reading their emotional, insightful and self-aware reflections. They represent a beautiful snapshot of the year and the collective voice of the entire class. Their words express what NJC did for them, while they also may remind you of what it did for you, for your children, or both.
Thanks to Leonard Wilde’s vision and the communities of families who have supported it since, all Neuchâtel Junior College graduates are part of an incredible legacy. I gratefully thank everyone who has donated in the past. I appeal to past donors to give again, and I ask those who have not yet supported the school to please contribute what they are able.
Thank you for your support of our extraordinary school.
Wm. S. Boyer, Head of School
