42 NEUCHÂTEL JUNIOR COLLEGE
SCHOOL LEADERSHIP
Mr. William Boyer
Head of School
BA University of Toronto
BEd University of Toronto | Faculty of Education MEd Endicott College
Mr. Boyer first joined NJC as Principal from 1989-1992 following twelve years at Crescent School in Toronto where he served as Head of the French Department and Director of Admissions. Following this first séjour in Switzerland, he returned to Canada with his young family to serve as Head of Toronto French School and then as Headmaster of Hillfield-Strathallan College in Hamilton, Ontario. During this period — never being able to fully separate himself from the special NJC community — he volunteered on NJC’s Canadian Advisory Committee for seven years. In 2009, twenty years after he had first set foot in Neuchâtel, Mr. Boyer returned to serve NJC once again with his leadership, talent and experience.
Mr. Boyer’s passions include History, French, and working with the hundreds
of students he has had the pleasure of teaching and travelling with in Europe. He also shares NJC students’ never-ending curiosity and love of learning, as he has recently completed his Masters of Education in International Education Administration with a particular focus on the new demands of the 21st Century learner. Outside of work, Mr. Boyer is an avid golfer and hockey player, and he and his wife Colleen enjoy theatre, film and opera.
Ms. Jennifer Adriaanse
Deputy Head of School | Director of University Guidance BA Brock University
MSc Ed Niagara University
Ms. Adriaanse’s national and international experiences bring a diverse educational leadership direction to the Neuchâtel setting. Having spent the first three years of her teaching career as a French teacher in Moosonee, Ontario in a predominantly aboriginal setting, travel was an integral part of this experience. Graduating students were able to travel to Europe, which was a life-altering experience for many from this isolated community. From there, Ms. Adriaanse was appointed as part of the foundational staff to a new school in Brunei Darussalam found on the northwest corner of the island of Borneo. Teaching the British curriculum at an international school at the secondary level using the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) was a new professional challenge, but a most welcome one. Preparing students for external exams in French and Geography was an experience of personal growth among this predominantly Muslim country. Travel was also an integral part of this experience, and Ms. Adriaanse found the ability to explore southeast Asia to be an incredible opportunity. Following this three year adventure, Ms. Adriaanse returned to Canada to serve Ridley College in St. Catharines, Ontario - one of NJC’s fellow Canadian Accredited Independent Schools. Working in Guidance at Ridley since 2008, and leading the department since 2010, she encouraged students to explore their many post-secondary options while supporting them in navigating the application process and the all- important graduating year. She also assisted students with AP exam preparation, SAT/ACT coordination and university placement on a global scale. On a more personal level, Ms. Adriaanse is an avid sailor and has been both a cruising and sailing instructor for over two decades.
