TRAVEL PROGRAM

COLLEGE REGULATIONS
For Parents and Family Members
Family members are always welcome at the College. Many choose to visit during the optional Parents' Weekend or join faculty and students on the annual, one-week ski/board excursion to Zermatt between semesters in late January. Attending graduation in June is another popular time to visit!
Neuchâtel Junior College expects students to conduct themselves online and offline in a manner befitting the good reputation that Canadian students hold in Neuchâtel and elsewhere in Western Europe. Courtesy, sensitivity, and respect for others result in a happy College community and a successful integration of the students into the town of Neuchâtel. Details on all of the College’s policies and procedures, including the Attendance Policy, are outlined in the “Academic, Behavioural, Travel and Disciplinary Policies and College Expectations” document, distributed to enrolled students and parents through the Pre-Departure Handbook. In addition, enrollment requires that parents and students sign a Code of Behaviour. Please note at this time the following regulations:
1. Attendance at all classes is mandatory.
2. Smoking or vaping is not permitted on College property or immediate vicinity, nor on school trips.
3. Possession or use of illegal drugs is forbidden.
4. Despite the legal drinking age in Switzerland of 16 for the consumption of beer and wine, generally students may not frequent bars, pubs or nightclubs and/or drink alcohol during the school week. Exceptions to the latter may include special College events or some mealtimes in pensions. A separate memo on alcohol use is reviewed with students and communicated to parents for clarification purposes.
5. Students who plan to travel independently must obtain written permission from the Head of School/Deputy Head of School in advance, as well as provide a trip itinerary and other details in case of emergency.
6. Students may not drive a car or motorbike, and may not hitchhike.
7. Students are expected generally to spend weekday evenings in their pension
or at the College for the purpose of studying. Normal curfew prior to a school day (Sunday to Thursday) is 10:30 p.m.; normal curfew on Friday and Saturday is 1:30 a.m.
8. Students are not to be absent from meals without notifying their host family in advance, and are not to be absent overnight without permission from both the Head of School and their host family.
9. Students are expected to respect differences of race, religion and ideas, and the people and cultures of Switzerland and other countries they may be visiting.
10. At all times and places, students are expected to avoid behaviour which may cause others in the College community discomfort or embarrassment.
