Aslam Khan

Aslam Khan, the true gentlemen of the sport

slam Khan is one of the true
      Agentlemen of the sport. Always
willing to assist and always keen to
compete, he made his Safari Rally debut
      back in 1980, co-driving in a Mitsubishi
Colt. The next year he started co-driving
for his close friend Jayant Shah and the
two have been regular competitors on
the Safari Rally ever since, with a
combined personal best result of fourth
      overall in a Nissan 240RS in 1983!

        Aslam has contested every East
African Safari Classic Rally except for the
      2017 edition when work commitments
kept him away. He returns for 2019 at
the wheel of his Porsche 911, with one
difference. His nephew, Imran Khan will
co-drive for him for the first time,
although Imran has plenty of Classic
      Safari co-driving experience already.

Aslam has been warming up for this
year's marathon event with a behind
      the scenes fitness programme,
concentrating on rehydration as this has
been an area he has struggled with in
the past. He also contested the July Top
Fry Classic, finishing sixth overall. He is
very conscious that the rally isn't over
until the finish ramp… in 2015 he
accidentally reversed his Porsche off a
bridge within sight of the finish of the
      last stage!

The pair are targeting a top 10 overall
result and it will be intriguing to see
how the internal rivalry between them
and Jayant in a similar Porsche, and co
driven by Aslam's brother no less!, pans
      out!

The Khan family business, ALS, has
always been a very big supporter of
Kenyan Motorsport and we thank them
for all the continued support over the
years and wish Aslam all the best on the
2019 East African Safari Classic Rally!
