CASE
The case has an oak carcass with walnut veneers and walnut mouldings. Walnut twist columns flank the rising hood which is surmounted by the original carved walnut swan neck cresting, centred by a scallop shell flanked by floral swags. The trunk door retains the original iron lock and hinges and is pasted to the inside with a label printed for the IDEN COLLECTION Cat. No. 1913
DIAL
The 91⁄2 inch fully latched brass dial is signed Joseph Knibb Londini fecit at the base interrupting the scored line border, the silvered chapter ring has Roman hour chapters, trident half hour markers and an outer concentric minute ring. The blued steel hour and minute hands are matted finely pierced and sculpted. The finely matted centre is plain except for a small calendar ring above chapter VI; the corners are applied with finely chased gilt- brass spandrels.
