VTTA NATIONAL 12 HOUR CHAMPIONSHIP
Sunday 11th August 2019
NEC Representative Keith Dorling
This year’s National 12 Hour was held in conjunction with the CTT 12 Hour Championship
promoted by CC Breckland.
Mark Fairhead, along with an extensive team of helpers and timekeepers, put on a
great promotion on what can only be described as an extremely blustery day. It
certainly was not the sort of day you would have thought that records would fall.
Both the women’s and men’s events where hotly contested with less than 6 miles on
standard between the men and 8 miles between the women.
After a lengthy dispute lasting several weeks the CTT finally published the results; this
had in turn delayed the publication of the VTTA result.
Considering how windy the day was some incredible rides where done.
Andy Jackson won overall with 303.981 miles. Mark Smith's 302.841 just over a mile
behind gave him second place overall. Dave Shepherd, the VTTA winner, was just
th
outside the top ten in 11 place, but giving 15 years on Andy.
Christina Murray’s 266.431 was enough for her to get second overall, just a couple of
weeks after her record breaking ride in the National 24 Hour. Becky Taylor, riding only her
second 12 hour, did enough for third overall and increased her mileage by nearly 5 miles in
very different conditions from last year when it was warm, sunny and calm. Past CTT
national champion Katja Rietdorf came a creditable sixth overall and third on standard.
Just in case you are wondering what the dispute was. It was all about what would
have been a record breaking mileage ride by (non-vet) Joe Skipper, but after a lengthy
enquiry he was deemed to have not completed the official course.
