               J. M. Chico Fernandez

Chico Fernandez was born in Cuba and moved to South Florida at a
young age. With him he brought his love for fishing and began fly fishing
in Miami after meeting Flip Pallot. Chico began his career as an
accountant and budget director for Burger King, but after a short time he
left the corporate world to become involved in the outdoors and fishing

fields. This included writing, teaching, and consulting on all things
saltwater fly fishing. He has broken and held several world records,
including the largest redfish taken with a fly rod, and was the first angler
to land a white marlin on a fly. Chico is a steward of conservation and is a
strong supporter of Bonefish & Tarpon Trust. He lives in Miami and

teaches the joys of saltwater fly fishing to others.

               Jerry Gibbs
Though he’s chased virtually everything with fins for thirty-five years as
Outdoor Life’s fishing editor, these days Jerry Gibbs’s focus is on striped
bass in Maine’s Casco Bay during the season, while scheming ways to
travel south when the fish do. Of the dozens of mistakes that can be

chalked up to angler error, Gibbs admits a personal pet peeve is a poorly
tied knot. “There’s really no excuse for coming up with a curlicue line end
where there once was a hook—and a fish. That translates to poor
workmanship. Doesn’t matter who you are, one thing you just can’t buy is
