Historic Leyburn Sprints
The 22nd to the 24th August 2025 saw
the staging of one of the State’s
biggest regional events with the 29th
Historic Leyburn Sprints event. Around
18,000 people descended on this small
town for two days of action.
Racing, car and caravan shows,
market stalls and more! Starting on
Friday with Competitor registrations
through to 5pm on Sunday after trophy
presentation there was a full timetable
of events.
There were 258 cars registered to race
the oldest three being a 1924 Amilcar
C4, 1925 Austin Seven Sports Special
and a 1925 Crossley Roadster.
Dick Johnson has been a repeat guest
at Leyburn over the years and this year
h e w a s j o i n e d b y t w o o f h i s
stablemates Kevin Bartlett and
Warwick Brown.
There were also plenty of display cars
to see including three cars from the
1949 Australian Grand Prix.

RCC Brabham Night @ Noosa Cinema
Joan Coles kindly sent me an account of the 2025 Leyburn
Sprints which she attended.
I
am sure you will find it
interesting and it mentions Kevin Bartlett was present at
the event.
This reminded me of the night in December 2019 when we
packed out the cinema for a special private pre-release
showing arranged for the Club of the ‘Brabham’ film.
Jack Brabham is, to date, the only F1 driver to win a
World Championship in a car of his own make.
After the film Kevin Bartlett and Frank
Lowndes treated us to a discourse of
information and anecdotes about their
association with Brabham which was extremely
enjoyable and interesting.
