The steering wheel
A delicate and precision operation by John McGovern

Mick Freestone asked me if I could do anything with the original steering wheel off his 1927 Pontiac (project
Beverly Hillbillys 🤣 ). This is how I received the steering wheel in pic 1.
The next stage was to glue the pieces together while screwed to the spokes using a two pack epoxy glue, note two missing pieces!! pic 2.
Now things started getting fiddly. I hunted around the local joiners and sourced a piece of America oak to make the two new pieces, which I put through a thicknesser to bring it down to the original wheel thickness. I then angled the ends to match the original pieces, and then made a couple of sheet metal templates to match the original finger jointing. pic 3
