OUR 2nd VISIT TO THE BRISBANE
MOTOR MUSEUM
Thanks to Tony Slattery for organising another excellent day out. Brisbane Motor Museum https://www.brisbanemotormuseum.com.au/
It was a drizzly morning on the Sunny Coast as 15 members met at Aussie World eager to get off for our visit to the Brisbane Motor Museum. Many of us had been on a previous occasion and an enjoyable visit was expected because the displays change every 3 months and we were off to view the latest one.
Dodging the raindrops on The Bruce we found Brisbane was dry and sunny when we parked up. Then it was up to the café for a welcome coffee/tea and cakes.
Suitably refreshed we filed into the exhibition area to view ‘99years of British’ and ‘Vehicles of Speed’ a wide mix of vehicles of all kinds spanning many decades.
From a 6-wheeled Austin through to the humble beginnings of Jaguar there was plenty to explore.
Among the Vehicles of Speed was Club Member Mick Freestone’s Bugatti and there were plenty of examples of tarmac, rally and speedway vehicles alongside videos and static info boards.
I think we all walked around at least 3 times studying and chatting about the various examples of velocity and the century of diverse British developments in the motor industry. Very many photographs were taken – very nice that the Museum allows this – and you will find a good selection on the following pages.
After all the exercise walking around the displays we had a welcome break choosing from the varied lunch menu + the odd glass of something refreshing alongside!
Then it was time for the short drive to the TradeCoast Heritage Park at Eagle Farm. Small but eye-opening and informative displays and video explained how the area was once used as a gaol for women convicts and had later become the original Brisbane Airport. Lots of photos of Australian contributions to the Second World War and historical information about pioneers like Bert Hinkler. The parkland around the Centre is used for occasional events and car shows.
