Starting off...
Sunday 13 November Members Drive through the
hinterland for Lunch
@ ‘The Orangery’, Maleny.
It was a perfect day to have the hood down and the wind in your hair. Meeting in Eumundi we all said how lucky we were with the lovely summery weather. It got quite hot standing around the meeting-up parking spaces and we were glad when Judy gave out the route instructions and we hit the road.
After a few ks. our first stop was for morning tea in a wonderfully shady park beside the road and members soon spread out on chairs, benches and blankets picnic-style for their refreshments.
For once, a long line of our cars were in convoy looking splendid with chrome gleaming in the sunshine. A bit of dust flew up as some of the drivers turned rather speedily into the park!!! A couple of cars overshot the entrance altogether and parked up further on – we caught them up at lunch time.
We had a little entertainment watching an under-cover speed cop on a motorbike nabbing a number of motor cycles who were undoubtedly speeding.
Then it was onwards and upwards onto the ridge via a steep and winding mountain lane to see the amazing views across from Montville to the ocean.
The Orangery did us proud for lunch. We sat at large tables on the veranda in a pleasant breeze with pleasing drinks of wine, bubbles, beer or whatever the chosen tipple might be. The staff were excellent with order taking and soon everyone was tucking into some delightful food. A wide menu seemed to please everyone, and a clever ploy by the waiting staff lured many of us into indulging in a delicious dessert.
The day was not over of course! We had to travel back to our various homes up and down the coast so another pleasant drive after lunch.
Thanks to Judy Bickly for organising the event – definitely one of the best this year.
