  BEHIND THE WHEEL
This month our intrepid ‘driver’ Noel St John-Wood drove Warren Evans’ tidy Triumph TR3

A perfect opportunity to drive Warren’s TR3 came my way when he asked me if I wanted a lift to the September Secret Men’s Business at Cooroy Busstop. I couldn’t refuse!
Slipping into the drivers seat is a bit like a hand slipping into a nice fitting glove – after clipping up and some basic tips about switches, we headed off and the ‘wind in the hair’ sports-car feeling kicks in.
The engine has low-down power which means changing gears is not necessary in sticky situations. The steering is excellent for a ’58 built car making for a relaxed drive on the open road. I was tempted to see what this little speedster was like at highway speed so I opened the throttle and flicked on the overdrive – not long and the speedo was in highway zone – which felt very comfortable apart from the blurred bitumen beside the low- slung door which made me realise how uncomfortably close my arse was to the ground!
It’s a fun car to drive and not tiring which is why Warren and his wife Gail enjoy many long Queensland and interstate drives with the TR Register of Australia.
Warren manages to do all the mechanical repairs ontheTR –notbadIsayassomeofthework can be challenging. He has just finished replacing the clutch assembly ready for another big trip to the TR Register’s Merimbula Concours event in southern New South Wales. With limited luggage space, the boot rack will come in very handy on this upcoming journey.
Hoping Warren and Gail enjoy trouble-free motoring in their special red sports-car.
