 FACTS ON NOOSA MARINE...
from Jack Connolly
Julian completed his apprenticeship in 1988, and has been manufacturing boats of various sizes ever since.
The current boat under construction is expected to be completed by the end of November, making it an eleven months build.
The boat, an Euro-style Overnight/Day boat, is a Roger Hill designed motor yacht, to be named TANK (because it looks like one!), and is 13.9m (45.6 ft) in length and is a monohull, and is being built ‘in survey’. ‘In Survey’ generally means that vessels are required to have a Certificate of Survey to operate as a commercial vessel in Australia. This certificate is evidence that a vessel has been surveyed during construction and meets the specified standards for design, construction, stability and safety equipment for commercial operation in Australia.
It will carry 1,900 litres of fuel which will provide approximately 700 nautical miles (1,300klms) of range at a cruising speed of 25 knots. However, it is capable of 54knots (approx 100kph).
The lightweight design and construction optimises the vessel’s performance and with the installation of a Quick MC2 anti-roll gyro that will provide added stability in rough seas.
The boat has a double berth and will have “everything that opens and shuts onboard”, including an outdoor galley under the T-top, lounges front and back with tables that can fold down.
Construction uses the DuFLEX panel system (foam/composite panels of varying densities) but it’s light for its length and it will certainly be speedy!
It’s powered by twin Mercury V12 Verado engines, each with 600 hp and are hailed as ‘game changing’ for their extraordinary range and performance. Theses monstrous outboard motors showcases this segment’s first steerable gearcase and industry-first two-speed transmission. The two motors came with a hefty price-tag of $270,000 installed.
Another unique feature of the design is the low draft of just 600cm, so the owners can practically beach ‘Tank’ wherever they choose to anchor.
Julian was a great host who was happy to explain in detail how the vessel was built, passing around various samples of material and fielding questions from the 30-odd members who were present on the day.
