The gates finally opened
at 3pm on Thursday as a seemingly endless line of motorhomes and trailers waited to claim their spot around the track. In the midst of the traffic, an industrial sized water pump entered the fray in order
to pump out the millions of gallons of water that had flooded the track in the
preceding days. The entire track crew worked hand-in-hand with whomever was willing to step in, removing millions of gallons of water from the track and relocating load after load of muck. Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts,
the crew turned a disaster into
a blessing and the course could not have been in more pristine condition when the riders rolled out on the track for Friday morning’s practice. By the time the sun began to set in the picturesque Oklahoma sky, tiny clouds of dust began to puff up off the face of jumps and it was as if the horrendous mid- week weather of Tornado Alley
had never occurred. A different storm was brewing in the midst of Friday’s dusk as the camping areas around the track came to life with
a contagious electricity. The first night of the World National Pit Bike Championships was under way, but it was only just a teaser for what was to come...
