Open Pro Sport allowed Cantrell to throw his previous results to the wayside, and start fresh amongst some of the best in the sport. The aroma of a title was filling the lungs of the KTM pilot, but man he made it tough on himself after a lackluster eighth place in finish in the first moto. After some serious constructive criticism,
Cantrell’s fire had been lit, and he showed no signs of restraint for the following two rounds. Taking the lead early in moto two, Cantrell and hot shoe Chase Sexton began to joust at center stage, fighting tooth and nail for the highly coveted lead position. Although Sexton would make the move near the halfway point, Cantrell would bring home a strong performance for second. Moto three, finally, where the stars would align and Sean would showcase the true potential. Trailing a charging Cameron McAdoo early, Cantrell would inherit the lead on lap six, and never look back. Fending off a very admirable charge from prospect Chase Sexton, he would go onto take the oh so special race win, and second overall for the championship.
