Cantrell was able to qualify in both 250 A and Open Pro Sport with solid 3rd place finishes, giving him a prime gate pick for the main events. In the 250 A main event on Monday morning, he utilized one of the strengths of his TLD KTM and pulled a top 3 start, but Kawasaki’s Austin
Forkner took his line away in the second corner and knocked him back to 5th place. Cantrell showed glimpses of the speed needed to battle at the front all weekend long, but it appears that he is just lacking the intensity on the opening laps to put him where he needs to be at the end. He was able to turn it up mid-way through the race, clocking his fastest lap time on the 7th lap, and put a move on Michael Mosiman for the final podium spot. The 2nd race that Cantrell lined up for, Open Pro Sport, was the 28th race of the day. The track had taken a beating since the 250 A moto and the evolved roughness of the track made it more difficult to find passing opportunities. He managed a decent start which put him 5th at the end of the first lap and set off a race long battle with the Yamaha rider of Bradley Taft. The two of them posted nearly identical lap times, but the late race pace of Cantrell was too much for Taft to handle as he put up his fastest lap time on the 8th time around the Daytona SX circuit. With the graduation of the dominant Austin Forkner from the amateur ranks and the rising confidence of Cantrell and the team, be on the lookout for Sean to do big things in the 2016 season.
