It was a roller coaster of a weekend for Florida native, Brock Papi. After winning his Schoolboy 1 and 250B heat, Papi was feeling good and was ready for the mains. After a slow start in 250B, Papi pumped out some consistent laptimes around 56 seconds. On his last lap, Brock had some difficulties as his
laptime fell to a 1:39.6. The track was getting rough and Papi handled it well, and managed to salvage a 33rd overall. Putting his 250B moto behind him, Papi lined up for his Schoolboy 2 moto ready to attack. Off to a great start, Papi found himself in the lead for half a lap until KTM rider Pierce Brown snuck by him on the inside of a corner. Brock managed to hold onto 2nd place for another lap, throwing down a 54 second laptime. After the third lap, Papi was faced with some difficulties. The Yamaha rider found himself a victim of the sand section. The sand took out Papi’s front end, shaking him up quite a bit. After struggling to get his bike started, Papi put down a 1:35.3 on his third lap. Trying to catch up to the pack, Papi threw down some lap times hovering the 56 second mark but he was only able to work himself up to the 27th position. Brock’s last moto of the weekend was Schoolboy 1, and the third time must be a charm. After a great start, he found himself in the fourth position on the 2nd lap. Soon, in the third lap, he would sneak by Pierce Brown and earn himself a podium position. Papi set the one of the fastest laptimes of the race with a 55.0 second laptime on just the 4th lap. Trying to catch Derek Drake, and Jalek Swoll, Papi was making smart line choices and trying put together a solid moto. And he did just that. Despite his struggles in his other motos, Papi cleared his head for his last moto and managed to see himself on the 3rd spot of the podium alongside Jalek Swoll and Derek Drake. Way to never stop pushing, Brock!
