ROGER HAYDEN
ROGER HAYDEN : MOTUL SUPERBIKE
Roger Hayden took his first win of the 2017 MotoAmerica season at VIRginia International Raceway during the third round of the series. He was able to make up fifteen valuable points on his teammate and championship leader, Toni
Elias, by the end of the weekend. The Kentuckian is coming into the race weekend at Road America in third place in the overall standings, narrowly missing out on second place to Cameron Beaubier by just one point. It will be an emotional weekend at Road America for the Yoshimura Suzuki rider as he’ll be competing only a week after the tragic loss of his older brother, Nicky. His dedication to motorcycle racing, his drive to succeed, and his willpower on and off the track are all virtues that were passed down through the Hayden family -- and it’s undeniable that they’ll be on display when the lights go out in Wisconsin.
Hayden started the weekend off in fine form, establishing himself as the man to beat by laying down the fastest lap of Superpole in order to earn himself the number one spot on the grid. The Kentuckian rocketed off the grid as the lights went out to signify the start of the first race, setting a fiery pace throughout the first couple of laps. He built an advantage of more than a second in just one lap, working hard in order to break away from the competition. Hayden wasn’t able to maintain the sizable gap for long as he was joined by Cameron Beaubier and Toni Elias at the midway point of the race, setting up a titanic scrap to sort out the order of the podium that would last all the way until the checkered flag.
