Benny Solis Jr. has been one of the most consistent riders of the
entire Supersport class throughout the first couple rounds of the
2017 MotoAmerica season. The Californian has finished every
race within the top five as the only rider in the field competing on a
CBR600RR. He made a positive step in the right direction at VIR
where he grabbed his first two podium finishes of the season in
quick succession, tasting champagne for the first time of 2017. The Honda rider will have some extra motivation to maintain the same form as the fourth round of action gets underway at Road America where he wasn’t able to compete last year.
Benny Solis Jr. fought through the dodgy qualifying conditions on Saturday morning at Road America and eventually put his Team H35 Honda at the front of the third row with a 2:36.122, placing him in a solid position to do some damage in the races. He started the first race of the weekend tentatively as he waited for the track conditions to come to him, settling into fifth place in the early stages of the race. The Californian quickly made his move on the Kawasaki of Shane Richardson one lap later, promoting himself to fourth position with his sights set on third place. The track began to dry out and
he began to eat away at the gap to third placed Jason Farrell lap
