>> Muskogee, Oklahoma native Colt Nichols put on an impressive ride at Redbud for Fourth of July weekend. The track may have been rough and tough, but Michigan presented the riders with some of the best dirt, and race fans, on Earth and the excitement in the air was clear. After
an remarkable sixth place overall finish last weekend at Muddy Creek, Yamalube /Star Racing/ Yamaha’s Colt Nichols was searching for a top ten, or maybe even a top five, finish in Michigan. The gates dropped for the first moto as forty riders came soaring and skipping through the long start straightaway and into the deep and winding first turn ruts. Nichols found himself in tenth place coming out of the first turn: a great place to be for the number 39 machine. Consistency was clearly key for Nichols as he remained level headed and rode a smooth moto in tenth place all the way to the checkered flag. A solid tenth place was great for Colt mov- ing forward into moto number two with hopes of a respectable overall. The second moto was off, but Colt Nichols found himself in seventeenth on the first lap and knew that he was going to have to push himself if
he wanted the kind of result he captured in the first moto. Lap after lap, Nichols steadily gained positions and found himself in the twelfth place spot by the halfway point of the race. Skipping and smoothly flowing across the jagged track terrain, Nichols was able to finish the moto in twelfth. With unfailing 10-12 finishes for the day, Colt was able to leave Redbud with a thirteenth place overall finish. Colt Nichols is one to watch and hopefully he can capture some results within the top ten at round seven in Southwick.
