THE GRID
GAVIN ANTHONY : KTM RC 390 CUP
Anthony was feeling the support of the Herrin Compound crew from the very first practice session onward as the Ohioan laid down the fourth fastest time in the opening practice session. He
wasn’t able to match the same effort in practice, but he still managed to qualify on the third row
of the grid with a 1:50.830, six tenths behind the rider ahead of him. Despite his qualifying effort, Anthony proved his mentality to be strong when the lights went out on the first race -- the #176 machine barrelled towards the front of the field throughout the first couple of laps, making up three positions by the end of lap two. Anthony became entwined in a tightly contested battle with Toby Khamsouk and Tyler Wissel as they attempted to sort out fourth position. He worked his way to the front of the pack by the end of the sixth lap, but he wasn’t able to lose his pursuers as the pack continued to eat one another up. He sat in fifth position to start the final lap, but some smooth race craft from Wissel and Standish demoted him to sixth place by the end of the race. In the second race, Anthony lost a bit of ground off the start as he came around for the first time in tenth position. He worked his way past Cory Ventura early on, settling into ninth place for the majority of the early stages of the race. In an extremely eventful lap, Anthony dive bombed the pack ahead of him, promoting himself all the way to sixth position before immediately falling back down the order.
The Ohio native mixed it up in a fierce battle for sixth position, eventually coming out on top of his competitors as he proved to have the best race craft come the checkered flag.
