MUMFORD
The Team Dunlop Elite rider managed a decent start in the main event of the Supermini 1 class, launching to a spot within the top ten in the first corner. Mumford clawed his way forward to seventh position by the time the field crossed the line for the first time, but his forward progress wasn’t halted. The young Californian fought his way up to fifth position just one lap later, but the gap to the top four was too much to overcome in the closing stages of the race, forcing him to settle for a spot on the cusp of the top five. In the Supermini 2 class, Mumford executed a better launch towards the first corner as
he found himself within the top five immediately. The Honda rider made up one position in a flash as he moved into third place as he forced himself past the KTM of Joshua Varize. At that point, he did his best to track down the leading duo of Stilez Robertson and Preston Kilroy, but their pace was too equal and he wasn’t able to make the headway that he needed before the checkered flag, placing him in third at the end of the race. Mumford had a challenging second day in the Mammoth Mountains as the Team Dunlop Elite rider challenged both Supermini classes. He showed good speed in his heat races, clinching fifth place in both, in order to move forward into the main events. Unfortunately, the second motos didn’t go as planned for the young Californian. In the Supermini 2 class, the AMSOIL FC Honda rider grabbed a start within the top ten and immediately looked to move his way forward through the field. He jumped up from ninth to seventh position in just one lap, charging through the field on his way towards the leading group. On the third lap of the race, things took an unfortunate twist of fate that forced Mumford out of the race, and out of contention for the remaining motos. The Californian decided to wrap up racing early and focus on getting his mind and body right for Loretta’s at the beginning of August.
