Papi kept the gap at one second for the remainder of the race, eventually grabbing the checkered flag only a couple of bike lengths behind Newby to take second place. In the Open B class, the Suzuki rider set himself up for success with
a victory in the heat race, earning an optimal gate pick heading into the main event. He made things easy on himself with another holeshot, laying the hammer down with immediate effect as he pulled a gap on the rest of the field. Papi set the fastest lap of the race on the third lap as he continued to in- crease his advantage, eventually taking the victory by almost seven seconds on his way to the championship.
