Marchbanks decided to race the Schoolboy 2 class, the 250 B class, and the 250 B/C Open class at Mammoth -- his reputation deeming him as the favorite for the title in all three classes. The Team Green Kawasaki rider got off to an uncharacteristically rocky start in the Schoolboy 2 class, battling to a fifth place finish in his heat race. But, he turned it around rather quickly as the main event got underway, overcoming his gate pick in order to start in the fight for the podium. Marchbanks tucked in behind Derek Drake on the opening lap, forcing himself past the Orange Brigade rider one lap later. At that point, he set the fastest lap of the race and began to build a gap on the rest of the competition, keeping his head down and his eyes forward on his way to an uncontested checkered flag.>>
