>> Dean Wilson is racing on his own dime this year, proving to the disbelievers that he still has it. Aboard his Yamaha 450 Wilson worked hard during the off season to be prepared for the upcoming races. His hard work wasn’t for nothing. At the season opener he was able to finish off in thirteenth, a re- spectable position in such a stacked class. Round two went a little better for the young rider. Starting the night with a fifth in his heat race only one spot away from that coveted trans- fer position. Since he didn’t make the main he had to race in the semi where he finished third and moved on to the main event. Since Wilson had to qualify out of the semi he spent
a little extra time racing and was unable to get an ideal gate pick. Making the best of his position Wilson pulled the trig- ger out of the gate through the first turn sitting back in twelfth through the first lap. Taking advantage of the close proximity of everyone in the beginning of the race he quickly moved forward up to ninth. With such heavy competition Wilson was unable to maintain his spot within the top ten and slowly fell back. He settled back in twelfth where he finished off the race. Even though it was only one position up from last week it was still an improvement. We will be seeing more of Wilson throughout the season.
