nyone that drives through the gates at the entrance of the facility is immediately taken aback by the overwhelming
amount of banners and decora- tions that cover the
facility from head
to toe. Every fence
that sets the track
parameters is laden
with a multitude
of different spon-
sors, GRIT banners
tower above the
track and plaster
each side of the pedestrian bridge that allows access to the infield, and the iconic Dunlop wall provides a fitting backdrop for the historic concrete start that has served as a launchpad for some of the all-time greats.
The Ponca City Grand National Championships first began in 1978 and the tradition has been extended by The Motoplay- ground Race at Ponca City -- even forty years removed from the first gate drop, the history
is practically palpable and the atmosphere is electric.
There’s a reason why this location has been a staple in the world of amateur motocross for so many consecutive years: the dirt. Over
the course of the previous forty years, the soil has been molded into something especially unique. Ruts form and stay compact throughout the entirety of a race day, presenting riders with the same amount of lines
