THE MOTOPLAYGROUND RACE
at Ponca City
NATE THRASHER >> 1
Fresh off the mini-cycle machine, Nate Thrasher has had a coming out party of sorts here in the past few years. Blitzing the amateur circuit in wave like fashion, every event he’s chosen to compete
at is one he’s heavily favored to win. Whether pulling a holeshot and never seeing anything but the front, or clawing his way through the pack, he always seems to find his way to the top step. And the MotoPlayground race at Ponca City wasn’t any different, as the first moto would entail his premix fumes engulfing all those behind, and a thunderous cloud of smoke left to be rummaged through. Thrasher would set the fastest
lap of the moto on lap number two, pulling away from a surging Jeremy Ryan in the process. Con- tinuing to hold steady as the laps would accumulate, the relic of orange plastic would glisten in the sunshine, never having a piece of this pristine Ponca soil touching the front number plate. He would lead every lap in the process, stretching a plus fifteen-second lead over the next registered finisher. Thrasher was excelling on this machine, and nodding to the crowd as he went back to the trailer. Lining up for the second moto, he felt confident that he could complete the task at hand, no matter what was thrown in his path. And luckily for that notion, he prevailed through the chaos that was thrown his way. Managing
a fifth place ride on lap number one, he would fight his way into a podium ride by lap two. Doing a bit of calculation in his head, he knew the title could be sewn up
