TY MASTERPOOL
Ty Masterpool was one of the biggest storylines in amateur motocross through- out the 2017 season. The Texas native kept relatively quiet throughout the early stages of the season after stepping away from a sponsorship with JGR and Yamaha, making appearances at a few local races in his home state of Texas. He finally surfaced at the Junior Moto X in Oklahoma where he won the Jesse cup and took the title in the Supermini 2 class aboard a TM Supermini. He stuck with the unlikely manufacturer in both Supermini classes at Loretta Lynn’s and completely dominated proceedings, undeniably proving himself as the fastest rider in the class by winning both titles. In the final quarter of the year, it was announced that Masterpool was picked up by the Star Racing Yamaha amatuer program and he made his debut for the team at Mini O’s, winning the Schoolboy 1 title in the motocross classification in addition to a couple of overall podium finishes. Masterpool started the 2018 season with a couple of second place main event finishes at the Monster Energy Amateur Supercross in Anaheim, staking his claim to the front of the field in the Schoolboy class in preparation for spring nationals.
DILAN SCHWARTZ
It was apparent way back in 2011 that Dilan Schwartz was going to make a name for himself in the amateur motocross com- munity after he finished second in the 51cc (7-8) Limited class at Loretta Lynn’s. The Californian has continued to perform at the Ranch in recent years, claiming a number one plate in the Mini Sr. 1 class a couple of years ago in addition to numerous top five overall finishes. 2017 was a big year for
the Team Green Kawasaki rider, earning multiple overall podium finishes throughout spring nationals on his Supermini. Despite a hard crash at the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship, Schwartz was on top of the Supermini class throughout the summer, winning a pair of titles at Mammoth Moun- tain Motocross. The Californian scored a second overall in Supermini 1 at Loretta Lynn’s before graduating to the KX250, making his debut on the big bike at The Motoplayground Race at Ponca City where he won the Schoolboy 2 class and finished second in the 250 All Star A/B division.
He was in top form heading into the Thor Winter Olympics as he got more and more comfortable on the big bike, but a crash during the early stages of supercross de- railed the end of his season. Nonetheless, Schwartz returned to racing action at the beginning of 2018 and logged multiple con- sistent results in the B class at the Monster Energy Amateur Supercross in Anaheim, rejuvenating his confidence heading into spring nationals.
