ENZO LOPES
Enzo Lopes was projected as one of the top riders in the A class heading into the 2018 season, finishing his amateur career throughout the spring before making his professional debut at Hangtown in May. The Brazilian native chose to line up at the inaugural Spring A Ding Ding at Underground MX and served as one of the best riders in the A class throughout the multiple days
of racing. Lopes competed tooth and nail with Tanner Stack as the duo diced for moto wins, but the KTM rider was able to come out with the upper hand at the end of the weekend, winning three out of four motos on his way to both A class championships. Once the gate dropped at Freestone, Lopes immedi- ately found his way back to the podium. The Brazilian collected a total of three podium finishes and an additional moto victory throughout the week of racing
at Freestone, but a DNF and an eighth place finish affected his overall results. Nonetheless, Lopes still pulled out a third place overall in the Open Pro Sport class in his final amateur event.
ZANE MERRETT
Zane Merrett was part of a select group of riders at the first annual Spring A Ding Ding at Underground MX that was literally competing on home soil, racing at the same track that he lives and trains throughout the majority of the year. The KTM rider came out swinging in the A class once the racing started and he put forth some respectable results, finishing three out of four motos on the podium. A bike problem in the Open Pro Sport class ruined his second moto, but Merrett was still able to salvage a third place overall in the 250 A division. The very next week at the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship, Merrett decided to enter the College (16-24) class in addition to both A classes. He had an up and down week in both A classes, but still managed to earn a pair of top ten finishes before the week was over. Nonetheless, Merrett really rose to the occasion in the College division and finished both motos on the podium, resulting in a second place overall.
