The Saskatchewan native of Shawn Maffenbeier showed up with his team at the Ironman National to prep for Mxon in September. The #146 and his Big Steel Box / Redemption team looked strong in practice with Shawn qualifying inside of the top 15 on the weekend ahead of some top riders in the 250 class. Race one could not have started much worse than it did for Maff, he crossed the finish line in 37th. The track got a bunch of rain throughout the week and the first 250 race was actually a mudder, even though the track was nearly perfect for the other three races on the day. That being said, finishing lap one in 37th absolutely sucks because that means a lot of roost is headed your direction, at a mud race this can effect you with loss of vision, you could easily run out of tare-offs. Maffenbeier got around 10 riders in the first 10 minutes of the race to get himself to 27th, he eventually finished in 28th.
