It was definitely a good day for the #34 Yamaha rider, getting a great start to reach 2nd, behind the season champ, Ken Roczen for the first few turns of moto one. Heading deeper into the opening lap, Nicoletti allowed Barcia to get by, while the #51 was the only rider in the class to keep up with
Roczen all day. Philthy wasn’t affected by the pass, though, as he kept his Yamaha pointed straight forward. In 3rd for
the first several minutes of the race, it took a while as Nicoletti didn’t let Musquin by easily but the #25 was a little too much
for Phil to handle as he was pushed back to 4th. Now leading a hungry Eli Tomac in 5th and Jason Anderson in 6th, Nicoletti
couldn’t muster the speed to stay in front of the two riders but did his best to follow and stay as close as possible. Able to

stay within relative striking distance of Anderson, Phil, now in 6th, had the 6’5” monster of Bloss behind him but was suc-
cessful in finishing in 6th and avoiding any sort of severe fade following a great start.
