>> As a rider nears the end of his amateur career, his focus shifts from
the rough, rutted terrains of the outdoors, to the bright, daunting lights
of stadium’s around the country. The jump isn’t for the weakhearted, as 30-minute moto’s are replaced for shorter, and at times more intense bouts, with jumps shooting you into the stratosphere, and absolutely no room for error. Ramyller Alves has always said he was ready for the task when the moment is right, and his performance at the Junior Moto X Championships reiterated the forecast he’s been telling us for years. A fifth across timing and scoring for the opening lap of the heat race wasn’t exactly what he wanted, but he knew this was no time to dwell on the past; he had to keep moving forward. Setting his (and the fastest total) lap of the race on lap five, he worked his way into the final podium spot by the checkered flag, know- ing what he needed to do come time for the main event. Trailing the KTM
of Max Markolf initially, he knew he had to get around the number 827 soon if he wanted to take the race win. And he did, shifting by on lap three, but leaving no time to relax. Hopping through the finish line rhythm section, he would secure the Yamaha into the inside rut of the right hander, gradually laying on the throttle, all the while keeping his right foot just millimeters from the stadium floor. With a ten lap main, he knew the work he put in during the week would be paying off, as his heart rate was climbing, but not at un- necessary speeds. The mechanic reiterating to breathe, he was giving his arms a chance to relax over the distant double, preparing for the sweep- ing right-hander that followed. His stamina wouldn’t falter in the end, as
he would fend off Kevin Moranz for the victory, taking home the first place prize.
