>> Two-stroke smoke mixed in with the morning dew and
it was Garrison Smith who took the holeshot on his KTM machine. Bryce Shelly and Hamden Hudson were close behind him on the opening lap, doing their best to stay within contention for the lead. But, Smith seemed to have superior speed as he slowly broke away at the front of the field. The action behind him heated up as Wyatt Mattson and Matty Jorgenson moved themselves up into the battle for the po- dium, relegating Hamden Hudson behind them. Smith con- tinued to lay down fast laps by taking advantage of the clear track ahead of him, but Jorgenson was the rider on the move as he threw down the fastest lap of the race in an attempt
to track down the leader. He put the pressure on Shelly and the top three began to close up in the waning moments of the final lap, but despite the close proximity in which they battled, the positions didn’t change. Smith did exactly what he needed to do after grabbing the start, consequently put- ting himself in a prime position to battle for the overall victory with a win.
