>> Nathan Augustin got out to an early advantage on his roy- al blue steed just ahead of the Honda of Cole Tompkins and the Yamaha of Chris Russell. The leading trio would remain in this order for the entirety of the race, but it wasn’t as easy as the numbers make it appear for the North Carolina native of Augustin. Tompkins hounded him from the gate drop as the Californian put the pressure on all the way until the finish line. The Honda rider turned the fastest lap of the moto on the very final lap, but the effort came too late as Augustin’s consistency had already built him a fairly comfortable gap at the front of the field. He turned multiple laps in the 1:55’s in the midst of the moto, but he was forced to respond to the late charge of Tompkins as he ended up clocking his person- al best time on the last lap as well. All in all, Augustin showed the composure of a veteran as he controlled the race from the front and put his Yamaha on the top of the box. Keep
an eye out for the #70 Yamaha at the sharp end of the field when the second moto kicks off on Saturday.
