>> Wilson Fleming and Carson Brown battled for prime real estate in the first corner, but only one of them could emerge to the front of the field; it was Fleming who made his way into the lead within a couple corners of the first lap. Carson Brown followed him closely and attempted to stay with the Yamaha rider, but he received a distracting presence in the form of Zane Merrett toward the end of the 2nd lap. The pressure from Merrett forced Brown into a mistake and he ended up dropping back out of the top 5, removing him from the podium battle and allowing the Texan to concentrate
on the matter at hand. The gap between Fleming and Mer- rett shrunk with each passing corner as the Texan threw his KTM around with some serious body english in an attempt to squeeze a couple of tenths out of the gap. The two riders crossed the finish line as they took the white flag with mini- mal space between them, setting up the final lap as a nail biter for the spectators. Fleming was able to respond with
a mistake free lap that propelled him to the victory and put him in a solid position for the overall victory heading into the second moto.
