>> Kobe Heffner put his Kawasaki out front and immediately broke away with urgency from Justin Rodbell and Austin Watling. Heffner was looking to make amends for the misfor- tune that he experienced during the SX portion of the week; he did just that by setting the fastest lap of the race on the first flying lap, stretching his advantage over the Yamah of Rodbell to almost 7 seconds. Rodbell and Watling swapped positions throughout the span of the opening lap, putting themselves in tightly contested battle for 2nd place. Heffner laid down a blinding pace at the front of the pack, gapping the rest of the riders by an astronomical margin. The young Georgian had a breakout ride as he took the heat race vic- tory with commanding style.
