calm, calculated and constantly relentless, Ryan dungey is simply unbeatable. The night started rather routinely
with dungey getting off to another impressive start in his heat race, finishing 2nd behind Jason Anderson. Anderson looked to have a competitive edge heading into the main but dungey was set for possibly the most remarkable perfor- mance of the year. With the stack of champions all bursting off the line in unison, dungey again pushed the KTm into the lead extremely early, in 1st by the second turn. Over the next few laps, what started to develop as a normal victory for dungey, the race materialized into something special. Ryan’s leading rival, Ken Roczen, knew he had to get to sec- ond place quick to offer any sort of charge on the championship and race leader. By the end of lap four, Roczen had actually worked his way to dungey’s back tire, causing a gasp in the crowd. dungey shut the door somewhat swiftly, pulling out two seconds over the next lap. Yet, Roczen returned not just once, not twice but five times over the course of the remaining fourteen laps. Ken seemed to have the second half the course dialed, always making his run into the corner before the rutted whoop section of the final straightaway. Whether lappers or Ryan’s pure speed as his down- fall, Roczen pushed valiantly to the finish, a few bike lengths behind dungey’s repeat performance in Indianapolis.
