With the ooh’s and ahh’s of 60,000 fans all around, Roczen looked to forecast his main event
outlook early, displaying true colors in the heat race. Following a second place start to Oklahoma’s Justin Bogle, the RCH rider stalked the Geico opposition for a mere portion of the first lap. After entering one of the latter rhythm lanes just a nose behind the Honda, Roczen proceeded to forego the “all inclusive” bike wash, and instead, soak and scrub the spring rate of the Suzuki, shaving milliseconds and completing the pass in the concluding left hander. It would be smooth sailing following that transaction, and Roczen would head to the main event sitting pretty with a heat race win.
As the field took their respective gates for the 450 main event, Ken seemed to have a demeanor of the utmost seriousness and focus. The race win was within grasp, and after periods of visualization, it was his turn to conquer the opportunity.
With the field diving into turn one, Ken was pinched and forced to cross the white stripe in eleventh. A sense of urgency began to beam out of the goggle lens of Roczen, as each competitor who was in his way was quickly overtaken. An extraordinary push resulted in Kenny sitting 2nd after the green flag, placing immense attention on Ryan.
