After a crash in practice, martin davalos comes out swinging in the heat. He immediately rockets after the race leaders – Jeremy martin and shane mcelrath – making a move on mcelrath on the third lap and spending several laps closing the gap on martin. By the final lap, davalos catches up to the race leader and challenges him – bringing the crowd to their feet. But a slip in the final few moments of the final lap catapults davalos off his bike. Even after the wicked crash, davalos
recovers rapidly – getting back on his bike and earning his ticket to the main in third place.
From the get go, Davalos has to fight through a pack of riders to get to the top three after starting the race in sixth place. He makes quick work of several, but by the third lap he contends with Jeremy Martin – who isn’t going down without a fight. Davalos fights des- perately to make a pass – but ends up not having to – when Martin goes down and is out of the race, Davalos finds himself in third. In the final few laps a run-in with Matt Bisceglia made an opening for Audette and Mcelrath, dropping Davalos down to fifth overall for the evening.
