The number 51 set himself up well following the first moto gate drop, but appeared to be a tad delayed in his opening lap charge. He was on the binders uncharacteristically early, seemingly allowing competitors such as Marvin Musquin a direct path around. As each respective member
of the field past, Barcia began to finally take note and send the JGR Yamaha into true gear.Diving into the deep loam of each switchback, Barcia loaded up the clutch, and twisted the throttle to the point of snapping, keeping the RPM’s at their climactic ceiling. An unfortunate error on lap six saw
Barcia’s top 5 aspirations crumble, and eventually drop him to an excruciating 37th place finish.
Reworking his negative aura of Supercross, Barcia yet again found himself near the front at the beginning of moto two. Willing to throw body and machine to the ground in order to savor his respective position, Barcia shoved anyone who came near the wayside, trying his best to put the field at bay. He and Anderson created a yo-yo type of effect on the second lap, springing back and forth
for fifth position. With the eye-opening width of the Glen Helen course providing an array of lines to choose from, Barcia began
to explore some of the hidden lines around the raceway; unfortunately it would cost him, and he would succumb to the number
21. Next on the list of battle, was that of Eli Tomac. The number 3, as we all know to be an outdoor specialist, made quick work
of Barcia down the start stretch, and pushed JB51 back to eighth place with twenty minutes to go. Making matters even worse, a familiar motor echo began to rattle the mindset of the New York native, and when peaking over his shoulder, he realized it was his teammate, Phil Nicoletti. The sight of blue plastic put an extra boost in the bloodstream of the number 51, and although a fierce battle ensued, it was Barcia who emerged victorious, taking the eighth place position once and for all; finishing 14th overall.
