JOEY CROWN
Joey Crown made the trip north of the border for the Walton TransCan Grand National Championship after Loretta’s and took the MX2 title
on Canadian soil. He earned an impressive 3rd overall in the Super Final after fighting his way through the field after a mid-pack start, managing to run consistent lap times with the eventual winner, Kaven Benoit. Considering Benoit’s stellar 11th place overall at the final AMA National of the season in Indiana, Crown has to take away bunches of confidence from his result at Walton. The Michigan native is lining up
on the gate at the Baja Brawl just down the road from his hometown; it’s actually so close that he’s able
to return back to his house each night after he’s done racing and sleep in his own bed. The comfort
of a home race doesn’t get any
more advantageous than that, not
to mention the ease of travel for
his family and friends to come out and support him at the track. Crown decided to contest all three Pro/Am classes on his KX 250, putting him at somewhat of a disadvantage against
the beefier 450 machines. The Team Green rider struggled with starts all weekend, the disadvantage in horsepower being most heavily represented out of the starting gate. But, the most costly issue of the weekend occurred during the second 450 moto when he experienced a problem on the gate that forced him to start dead last, over 20 seconds behind the leader. By the time he crossed
the finish line after the opening lap, he had already worked his way up to 15th place and
continued to charge forward.
