Ken Roczen seemed to finally find his groove on the RCH Suzuki machine at the end of the supercross season and aimed to carry over that chemistry with the bike into the outdoor season that he so desperately needed last year. When the dust settled after qualifying practice, Roczen had the fourth quickest time and looked poised to go out and contend for the win.
As the 450s stormed into turn number one for the first time this season, Roczen found himself
in eighth place. Not exactly where he wanted to be so he decided to make some fast passes. Like really fast passes. In an unprecedented surge, Roczen sliced and diced his way from eighth to the lead in HALF a lap! He blew by former champions and race winners like they were sitting still including defending champion Ryan Dungey. Roczen took the green flag first and never looked back.
