Trey Canard of the Factory Honda team began his season on the right foot, getting good starts
and riding consistently. In moto 1 he almost, by about one centimeter, got the holeshot. He slid
out a little bit causing him to lose his momentum and give Seely that extra inch he needed.
Canard was in second when Seely went down, but Roczen got by him leaving him still in second. Looking good in second place Canard makes a mistake and slides out causing him to crash. His unfortunate downfall sent him all the way back to twelfth, luckily it happened early on in the moto leaving him enough time to gain some positions back. He immediately started his way back to the front moving into eleventh and then passing Bogle putting him into tenth. Making a few more passes and then getting by Musquin and Barcia, Canard was in seventh. During the last laps of the race he began to battle Anderson, going back and forth, but Anderson was the one who came out on top leaving Canard with a seventh place finish in moto 1. The next moto was an even stronger ride for the Honda rider getting a smooth start right into the mix of the top ten. He quickly passed Noren and moved into tenth place. Just five minutes in to the brutal thirty minute moto he made yet another pass and cruised into eighth place. Canard rode most of the race in that eighth place spot, it wasn’t enough though and he kept moving forward passing Nicoletti and Bagget. He kept the momentum going and charged through to the finish in fifth place. Riding a smooth two motos with only one go down, Canard finishes with a fifth overall in the season opener.
