>> Colt Nichols has been riding a very consistent season making the top ten at every round but two. With a 5th overall as his best finish, there is still room for improvement heading into the final rounds of the 2017 Outdoor Nationals. Laying down some fast laps in qualifying, Nichols qualified as the 8th fastest rider of the day on the tricky Washougal track. Charging out of the gate in moto one the Star Racing Yamalube Yamaha rider was in 9th around the first turn. Moving up to 8th on the next lap, he was running down the #74 of Brad- ley Taft. After catching him, it took a few laps to make the pass, but he pulled the trigger and moved up to 7th. Keeping the wheels on the ground, Nichols was racing at a good pace. As the moto wound down to an end, the Yamaha rider lost a few positions finishing off in 10th. Improving his start for moto two, Nichols was in 5th around the first turn. Making a quick pass, he was up to 4th place putting in one of his best rides of the season so far. At the halfway point his teammate Dylan Ferrandis caught up to him and made the pass fol- lowed by Zach Osborne, sending Nichols back to 6th place. Hanging onto 6th for a few more laps he lost his position to Jeremy Martin, but only after putting up a good fight. Now in 7th, he was looking forward with his eyes on the finish and not letting anyone else pass him. He finished the second moto off in 7th going 10-7 for the day getting an 8th overall.
