Kyle Cunningham had himself a solid showing in practice by qualifying 12th place. He looked to put his Suzuki into the main event straight out of the heat race and he would do just that. Cunningham started his heat race in 7th place and would make quick work
of Chris Howell and settle into no mans land in 6th place. No one in near him in front or behind him but the 6th place would be more than enough to land a spot in the main event.
The main event would be the sight of a gritty performance by Cunningham. He started off the race by going down hard in the first turn but instead off calling it a night, he decided to stay in race. After coming around the first lap in 19th place, Cunningham put his head down and looked to salvage whatever points he could get. Through the pack he would go as he diced his way all the way up to an 11th place finish. It was an exceptional ride for Cunningham for starting way behind the rest of the field. The season heads to Cunningham’s home state of Texas next weekend and he will try to put together a similar effort but a better result than this weekend in San Diego.
